One of the greatest advantages of booking your newborn photography session with Kristy Lehman Photography is the seamless, luxury experience designed entirely around you and your baby. Preparing for newborn portraits should feel exciting — not overwhelming. It’s completely natural to wonder what to bring to newborn photos and how to make everything run smoothly.
At my studio, every detail is thoughtfully prepared in advance — from beautifully styled, custom-designed setups to a warm, soothing environment that keeps your baby comfortable and safe. You only need to bring a few simple essentials, and I take care of the rest. My goal is to create a calm, stress-free experience where you can relax, feel confident you chose the best, and truly enjoy these fleeting first days with your little one.
Meaningful Heirlooms
Adding meaningful heirlooms to your session is a beautiful way to personalize your baby’s portraits and tell your family’s story. Incorporating heirlooms into newborn photos — such as a grandparent’s blanket, a cherished family ring, military memorabilia, a religious keepsake, or even a special stuffed animal — creates images filled with connection and legacy. These sentimental touches not only add depth and emotion to your newborn photography session, but they also transform your portraits into timeless treasures that honor generations past while celebrating your newest little love.
Below is a beautiful example of incorporating heirlooms into newborn photos — featuring a meaningful African American tribal-patterned wrap lovingly swaddled around baby. Cultural textiles and heritage pieces like this add powerful storytelling elements to your newborn photography session, honoring family roots while creating timeless, artistic portraits. These intentional details celebrate identity, tradition, and the deep connection between generations.

Feeding Supplies
Bring extra bottles, breastmilk, formula and/or breast pump (if applicable). If you are supplementing or feeding exclusively from a bottle, we always recommend bringing a little more than you expect to use during a 2–3 hour photo session. If you bring a bottle, my assistant or I will be happy to feed your baby for you during the session.

Your only job is to show up and love on your baby. I take care of the rest. These early days pass quickly, and my goal is to create timeless newborn portraits while you relax and soak in the sweetness.
